Pops by the Sea, an annual concert in Avila Beach, is just two weekends away for a "South of the Border" fiesta presented by the San Luis Obispo Symphony.
Tickets are on sale for $15 in the San Luis Obispo Visitors Center, 1039 Chorro St. in downtown San Luis Obispo or online at at www.slosymphony.com. Children 14 and younger are free. Tickets are also currently on sale online for the annual Pops Grand Prize Drawing of Central Coast Getaways. This year’s drawing also features a beautiful half-carat diamond necklace from Marshalls Jewelers in addition to getaway packages to Sycamore Mineral Springs, the Anderson Inn in Morro Bay, tickets to the New Year’s Eve concert and more. On Sept. 5, Maestro Michael Nowak and the San Luis Obispo Symphony will present "¡Pops a la Playa!" the 19th Annual Pops by the Sea concert at the Avila Beach Golf Resort. Hosted by Mayra Zavala of Univision 38, the concert will feature the talents of Brazilian singer/guitarist Téka, and a local “Salsa” band with musicians Bob Harway, Dave Becker, Duane Inglish, Dylan Johnson, Dave Solis and Max Garduno. The musical program will include such Latin favorites as Girl from Ipanema, Tico Tico, El Chocklo, Hernando’s Hideaway, Besame Mucho, Tequila, La Bamba, Guantanamera, HOT HOT HOT and many more. New this year will be a pre-concert Family Festival, beginning at 2:30 pm and featuring fun musical activities for children and adults, including the Symphony’s Musical Petting Zoo, Latin dancing by SLO Tango, Cal Poly Ballet Folklorico and the Cal Poly Dance Sport Team.
