Concerts in the Plaza will feature Monte Mills and the Lucky Shoehorse Band this Friday. Mills has become an icon of the California Central Coast and has a reputation of being one of the last and best yodeling cowboys around.

He's been instrumental in keeping traditional Western swing country music alive by introducing it to thousands of Cal Poly students and Central Coast residents every year.

Anyone can enjoy the live performance of Monte Mills and the Lucky Shoehorse Band at a free, two-hour concert from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., in beautiful Mission Plaza on Aug. 12.

Concerts in the Plaza is a summer concert series that features the best local musicians from Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. Local restaurants and eateries provide snacks and food for hungry concert goers while Firestone Brewery and J. Lohr Winery supply beer and wine for purchase. Non-alcoholic beverages are provided as well. Bar and food vendors open at 5 p.m.

Concerts in the Plaza is a family friendly event. No outside alcoholic beverages are allowed and this is a non-smoking event.  Concert-goers are asked to refrain from placing chairs and/or other material on the grassy knoll before 11:30 a.m. on the day of the event.

Monte Mills and The Lucky Horseshoe Band perform weekly at fairs, dances, private parties and more. They have performed for luminaries, politicians and entertainers including Kenny Rogers, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Monte Montana, President Ronald Reagan, Governor Dukemagian and countless others.

Mills has released numerous albums of his own music and has produced a number of other county music up-and-comers on his independent record label "Lucky Horseshoe records". But the real joy is to see Monte perform live.
