Lunafest, a traveling short film festival, is coming through San Luis Obispo this month and will be featured at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art. On July 11 from 6 to 9 p.m., the SLO Museum of Art will present an evening of exceptional shorts films. The festival is designed to simultaneously promote women filmmakers, raise awareness for women's issues, and support worthy women's nonprofit organizations throughout the US and Canada. Lunafest was established in 2000 by Luna, the makers of the whole nutrition bar for women.
This year's short films have won industry awards and audience accolades. From quirky animation, to touching documentaries, these movies are full of whimsy, hope, humor, grace and perseverance. The screening will include 10 short films that are incredibly diverse in style and subject matter, plus, a special bonus of two short films by local filmmakers Wendy R. Walter ("Cuba with Love") and Muara C. Johnston ("Two Altercations"). Suggested donation $15 in advance, $20 at the door. A portion of your donation will go to youth art class scholarships for girls in San Luis Obispo County. More information can be found at www.SLOMA.org or WomenInternational.net.
