The Satin and Swing gala will take place on Aug. 28 at 5:30 p.m. under the Big Tent at FHMC, 1911 Johnson Ave. in San Luis Obispo. All proceeds will benefit the life-saving programs and services at the hospital. Tickets to the gala are available for $175 per person, and include an entry to win an Art Deco Amethyst and Hearts On Fire diamond pendant donated by Kevin Main Jewelers, voted San Luis Obispo's best jewelery store several years in a row by locals.
The 2010 Louis Tedone, M.D. Humanitarian Award will be given to Phyllis Madonna for her philantrhopy and community-minded approach. Since she and her late husband Alex Madonna greeted their first guest at the Madonna Inn back in 1958, Phyllis Madonna has been giving back to the community. Over the years, the Madonna Inn has designed and donated countless decadent desserts to numerous nonprofit organizations, and Phyllis Madonna has personally dedicated more than 20 years to sponsoring and organizing the Women's Shelter annual fashion show fundraiser. Past recipients of the Louis Tedone, M.D. Humanitarian Award include Jac Pedersen, D.D.S., Steve Hearst, Ke-Ping Tsao, M.D. and Rob Rossi for their long-standing reputations for improving the quality of health care locally with professionalism and kindness. In 2006, the first annual gala established the humanitarian award by honoring its namesake, Dr. Tedone, for his 35-year career providing health care to the San Luis Obispo community. Since then, the fundraising galas have raised more than $460,000 for the programs and services of FHMC. The FHMC Foundation invites friends and colleagues of Phyllis Madonna to attend the gala where she will be recognized. Supporters are also welcome to make a donation to the to the Louis Tedone, M.D. Legacy Fund benefiting the patients at FHMC.
