Home tours to raise funds for Rotary PDF Print E-mail
Guests will have an exclusive look into the homes of five distinct and interesting couples as the Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo presents the 11th Annual “Homes of Distinction” Tour, Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each home has a unique ambiance where art, décor and landscaping tells the stories of their lives.

Proceeds from the Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo “Homes of Distinction” Tour benefit charitable efforts. Past charitable contributions include the gazebo at Mitchell Park, scholarship and mentor programs for high school and college students, vocational opportunities for students and international health care projects.

Tickets to tour the five homes are $25 per person and include refreshments served at the Bergman Home, courtesy of Madonna Inn and Trader Joe’s. Tickets are available for purchase at the San Luis Obispo, Arroyo Grande and Atascadero Chambers of Commerce, Santa Barbara First Bank and Trust (San Luis Obispo & Marigold Center), Founders Bank and Blakeslee & Blakeslee locations.

Inviting guests into their homes are:

Marilyn and Nels Silverson
Like many people who reside on the Central Coast, the Silversons followed their son here who came to attend Cal Poly. They tore down the original home on Santa Maria Avenue and built a modern masterpiece, which they describe as “contemporary with an Asian flair.” The architecture nicely showcases the view of the nearby SLO peaks and downtown. The interior showcases the many artifacts collected from the Silversons travels throughout Asia.

Sky Bergman
In 2007, Sky Bergman discovered a home on Mill Street that, from outside appearances, didn’t match the classic masterpieces that Mill Street is famous for. Sky enlisted the help of Italian architect Enrica Lovaglio Castello and together the pair transformed the home into a modern, clean creation that still retained the home’s original classiness.

Laurel and Saeed Davar
This home sits tucked against a softly curving hill in Edna Valley. Every west and south facing space offers expansive views of the surrounding vineyards and rolling coastal mountains. The true surprise is the carefully conceived interior, drawn from the works of Andre Palladio whose 16th Century designs were used in Venice and the great country houses of the Veneto. Make sure you step into the dining room and master bath to see Laurel’s renditions of Pompeii garden frescoes and Botticelli’s Birth of Venu

Georgiana and Dewey Peterson
Georgiana’s career as an interior and landscape designer has lent itself tastefully to the property and home. Inside, the home winds softly, from space to space, and is adorned meticulously with the couple’s heirloom furniture pieces. Georgiana describes the home as “comfortable elegance.” The spaces are livable, yet filled with superior craftsmanship and delicate touches.

Ben Kulick
The contemporary aesthetic, used carefully in each room and space is, above all, clean. Natural colors of concrete, steel, and walnut floors add a subtle, yet striking contrast as spaces blend into each other. Built by Ben himself, the home blends modern design with sleek technology. The home is “operated” by a highly sophisticated computer system, which sits hidden in the garage. Doors open, remotely. Lights dim. Curtains can be closed from a cell phone or from the home’s remote control system. Take your time exploring this truly modern work of art, and spend time noticing how every detail contributes to the masterpiece that is the Kulick residence.
