For seven years, Marshalls Jewelers in San Luis Obispo has donated fine jewelry totaling over $60,000 to Hospice Partners of the Central Coast’s annual fundraiser to help the organization provide "end of life" support services to local residents and their families.

Continuing that tradition, Marshalls recently created a custom-designed, handmade diamond, sapphire and aquamarine pendant, valued at over $7,000, that was the centerpiece of the live auction at Hospice Partner's "Dazzling Diamond Ball" on March 27.

The unique necklace was the first of the donated pieces specifically created to fit this year’s theme – "Pirates Cove on Treasure Island."

According to Marshalls Jewelers' owner Jeff McKeegan, "The pendant was fashioned to resemble a diamond and aquamarine-encrusted nautical compass. A blue sapphire was chosen for the center to evoke the feel of the ocean."

McKeegan’s passion for supporting Hospice Partners came from his personal experience with the organization’s services while taking care of a dying loved one in 2001.

"I couldn’t have done it without them," he said.  "I believe a million percent in what they do to provide comfort and dignity to the patient and family at the end of life. It’s an honor to give back to them in this way each year."

The fine jewelry retailer, located at the corner of Higuera and Garden Streets, has provided the auction centerpiece to the “Dazzling Diamond Ball” since the event was founded in 2003.
