The much-anticipated Concerts in the Plaza summer concert series kicks off its 15th season tonight with performances from The Viper Six. Thousands of people flock every year to downtown San Luis Obispo every Friday between June 4 and August 27 for a free, two-hour concert from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in beautiful Mission Plaza. This year's concert series features the best local musicians from Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. Local restaurants and eateries provide snacks and food for hungry concertgoers while Firestone Brewery and Edna Valley Vineyards supply beer and wine for purchase. Non-alcoholic beverages are provided as well. More than 50 bands apply each year to fill the 13 week line-up and past participants include Central Coast favorites: Resination, Damon Castillo Band, Big Daddy’s Blues Band, Still Time, Siko and many more.
Beginning in 1996 with one concert in June, July and August, Concerts in the Plaza, now in its 15th year, has blossomed into what some call the best free party in town. Join locals and visitors alike for the kick-off tonight at 5:30 p.m. Click here to check out this year's band lineup. Remember, Concerts in the Plaza is a family-friendly event.
