Public invited to Breastfeeding Clinic open house PDF Print E-mail

Feb. 8, 2010 ---

French Hospital LogoThe public is invited to join French Hospital Medical Center (FHMC) in celebration of its new Breastfeeding Clinic.

An open house will be held Feb. 11 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the clinic located in the Bear Valley Center, 12326 Los Osos Valley Rd., San Luis Obispo.

In August 2009, the FHMC Breastfeeding Clinic was established after the closure of the service by Community Health Centers of the Central Coast (CHC).

To ensure these essential lactation consulting services would continue for all San Luis Obispo County women, FHMC, San Luis Obispo County, and First 5 San Luis Obispo County joined together to save the clinic from significant reduction of services.

The ceremony will commence with a short dedication by representatives from County Supervisor Katcho Achadjian’s office, from First 5 San Luis Obispo County and from French Hospital. The celebration includes children’s activities, refreshments and raffle prizes. Lactation consultants will also be on hand. No RSVP is necessary; those with questions can call the Breastfeeding Warmline at 541-BABY or 541-2229.

As part of this collaboration, FHMC received a two-year grant to support breastfeeding services at four WIC (Women, Infants and Children) program sites in the amount of $144,000.

This grant is funded through First 5 San Luis Obispo County which maintains a safety net of services for young children.

If members of the media have questions, or would like to set up interviews with mothers who have benefited from the breastfeeding clinic, please contact Megan Maloney.
