Amazing Surf Adventures holds Operation Surf PDF Print E-mail

Operation Surf offers encouragement and help to overcome the recovery Amazing Surf Adventures, a California Central Coast 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is pleased to announce Operation Surf Central Coast 2011 that will take place Sept. 29 through Oct. 5, 2011 along the Central Coast beaches.

Operation Surf is a recreational and rehabilitative surfing experience for active duty military recently wounded or injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. Surf legends Van Curaza of San Luis Obispo and Richard Schmidt, Santa Cruz, along with many other stand-out professional surfers take our wounded warriors surfing while offering encouragement to help them overcome their recent life-altering injuries.

Operation Comfort, a nonprofit operating out of the Center for the Intrepid (CFI) at the Brooke Army Medical Center, Texas, has brought wounded American troops to the Central Coast for this rehabilitative surf experience since 2006. The participants are currently patients undergoing recovery and rehabilitative therapy at the CFI.

The Soldiers and Marines will arrive at San Luis Obispo Airport on Sept. 29. They will be greeted by the public and escorted to the Lighthouse Suites in Avila Beach by the Patriot Guard Riders and the Bent Axle Classic Car Club. A Meet and Greet Benefit BBQ will take place at the Avila Beach Golf Resort from 5 to 9 p.m. with music provided by Unfinished Business. It is open to the public. Tickets are $25 per person.

Opening ceremonies for the surfing event will take place on the Avila Beach Boardwalk at 9 a.m., Sept. 30. A dry land instruction will then take place and the troops will hit the beach. They will surf the following three days at the north side of Pismo Beach Pier, Cayucos Pier and finally at Morro Rock. They will also play golf at Avila Beach Golf Resort on Oct. 4. After a farewell dinner that night they will relax to the music of the Ondamatics at Mr. Rick’s in Avila Beach. The troops will depart from SLO Airport the next day.

Please come out and support these valiant young Americans at all our events.
