What happens when you take the orchestra out of the pit, put it in the path of four dancers and blur the boundary between music and dance? “StringWreck” is the exciting result – an entertaining and often poignant work of dance-theater that turns tradition on its head as dancers and musicians gleefully abandon their roles to search for new and unpredictable ways to coexist. Cal Poly Arts presents this innovative evening on April 15 at 8 p.m. in the Alex & Faye Spanos Theatre. For this riveting experiment in interaction, critically-acclaimed choreographers Janice Garrett and Charles Moulton are joined by an internationally-recognized leader in new music performance, the Del Sol String Quartet. |

Cal Poly Arts and Opera San Luis Obispo are proud to present The Met: Live in HD – a live-streaming, high-definition transmission series screened at the Performing Arts Center direct from the famed Metropolitan Opera’s stage in New York City.
On Sunday, April 10 at 2 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center, The Met: Live in HD series will feature a new production of Rossini’s final comic opera, "Le Comte Ory" in an encore screening.

Ray Davies of The Kinks fame claimed, “When I discovered Mose Allison, I felt I had discovered the missing link between jazz and blues.” On Saturday, April 2 at 8 p.m. in the Alex & Faye Spanos Theatre, legendary pianist Mose Allison appears with the Mose Allison Trio in an intimate concert presented by Cal Poly Arts. Allison embodies musical versatility, given his equally brilliant career in jazz, blues, and as a songwriter. While his boogie-woogie and bebop-laden piano is innovative and fresh-sounding, it is as a songwriter that Allison really shines. Allison’s singular style – a unique blending of jazz and blues – plus his profound lyrical wit mark him as a true American original. |

The winemakers of Paso Robles Wine Country are as distinct and different as the area’s celebrated wines, and the 29th Annual Paso Robles Wine Festival, May 20 – 22, is the event to experience how personality and rich history are reflected in every wine created.
Wine Festival offers enthusiasts the perfect opportunity to meet the characters that make up Paso Robles Wine Country on their own turf: at the winery, tasting room and the Paso Robles Downtown City Park during the Friday RESERVE Tasting (3:30 – 6 p.m.), Saturday Winemaker Seminar (1 – 2 p.m.), Grand Tasting (2 – 6 p.m.) and Wine Country Auction & Dinner (6 – 10:30 p.m.). New to Wine Festival is the Futures Auction, allowing wine enthusiasts the opportunity to set aside a special case of wine in their name before it’s been bottled. Funds raised through Wine Festival auctions will be gifted back to the San Luis Obispo County community through organizations that support healthcare, education and greater community services. |
