Luna Red celebrated its grand opening on Oct. 29 with a special ribbon cutting ceremony presented by the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce. Robin Covey and Shanny Covey, restaurant proprietors of Novo, in San Luis Obispo, and Robin’s, in Cambria, opened the new restaurant in downtown San Luis Obispo, next to the historic Fremont Theatre. Luna Red offers tapas, distinctive entrees, local produce, house-cured and specialty meats, and Central Coast and imported gourmet cheeses.
Based on the European concept of local, traditional, time-intensive cooking, Luna Red prides itself on its unique menu. The menu follows the global-fusion approach that has put Novo and Robin’s on the map, but Luna Red is distinct in its European-centered styling.
Luna Red fills what used to be the San Luis Obispo bus station. “I honored the historical space by filling it with eclectic décor, which includes antique windows, doors converted to stunning mirrors, and 1950s George Nelson bubble lamps," said Robin Covey. "And true to the local, sustainable philosophy, I paired antique and modern pieces with woven bamboo floors, Kirei walls, and a cork-lined planter.”
Luna Red is located at 1009 Monterey St., in San Luis Obispo. The restaurant is open for lunch on Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., and for dinner on Monday through Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. and 4 to 10 p.m. on Friday through Sunday.
