To mark the beginning of American Heart Month, French Hospital Medical Center (FHMC), a leader in cardiac care, celebrated the grand re-opening of the French Bistro Café yesterday.

The San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce held a special ribbon cutting ceremony and presented a certificate from the the city and the Chamber to commemorate the occasion.

The French Bistro Café, located off the main hospital lobby, has been remodeled to offer a more convenient and enjoyable dining experience. Improvements include stylish interior decorating, a beautiful hand painted wall mural, eco-friendly countertops and low energy lighting.

The remodel was made possible by donations from French Hospital employees through the Employee Caring Circle, as well as donations from the community and the Volunteer Guild.

As San Luis Obispo’s only comprehensive cardiac care center, the French Bistro Café will also debut a new heart healthy cafeteria menu featuring an option called “Just for You.” The “Just for You” menu items are less than 500 calories, contain less than 15 grams of fat or have less than 30% of total calories from fat, and contain 800 mg of sodium or less. Nutritional information on “Just for You” items is posted throughout the cafe.
    
In addition to the debut of the new interior and the new menu, our celebration will also feature heart healthy cooking demonstrations, nutrition education, giveaways of the 2nd edition of the FHMC cookbook, and several raffles.
