United Way of San Luis Obispo County held its Annual Recognition Event on June 8 at The Monday Club in San Luis Obispo and honored several local businesses and individuals for their contributions to the community and United Way.

The event was sponsored by Mission Community Bank.

Certificates of recognition were presented to the recipients of the Community Member Awards from the offices of Senator Sam Blakeslee, Assemblyman Katcho Achadjian, Congresswoman Lois Capps and Congressman Kevin McCarthy. Representative Capps attended the event and personally thanked the award recipients and those in attendance for their support of United Way.

Also honored were outgoing members of the United Way Youth Board and outgoing members of United Way’s Board of Directors – Carl Dudley (Mission Community Bank), Joy Harkins (Cal Poly State University), Barbara Heki (AT&T), Monica Irons (City of San Luis Obispo), all of which have served for six years; and outgoing president, Candy Markwith (Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center).
