The Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County, Inc. (CAPSLO) received a $5,000 grant from the San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation (SLOCCF) recently. This grant will be used to promote healthy eating by increasing the number of fresh vegetables and fruits served to children in child care by distributing barrel gardens for cultivation and harvesting. Thirty family child-care programs throughout the county and over 200 children and their families will benefit from this grant.
On April 24, Barrel Garden Kick-off Events begin and CAPLSO welcomes you to join them at an event in Atascadero, where children and their families will start their gardens. Join CAPSLO to see children singing, planting and engaging in various healthy eating and gardening activities at 10 a.m. in Atascadero. Please call Shana Paulson at 805-440-2082 for the exact location of this event. The San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation has identified obesity prevention as a critical local preventive health issue. Through its Healthy Eating Active Living Initiative, the Community Foundation will be strategically funding programs and activities that will ensure that all children in SLO County will be healthier through healthy eating and regular physical activity. In only ten years, the SLOCCF has distributed more than $14 million in grants to assist nonprofit agencies. For more information on the SLOCCF or any funds, call 805-543-2323 or log onto www.sloccf.org.
