Rialda (Ria) Grobler, RN, has been named Director, Maternal Child Services at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center. In this role, Grobler is responsible for management and operations of both the Labor and Delivery and Mother Baby Units.
On average, about 100 babies are born at Sierra Vista each month. Grobler brings more than 35 years of experience to our community in clinical care. During the last two decades she has held numerous leadership positions in medical centers throughout the country, most recently as the director of women’s services at Central Texas Medical Center. While there, Grobler was involved with the planning and implementation of a new women’s services building and credited with improved patient satisfaction scores. Prior to that, she was at Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville North Carolina, serving four years as director of the birthing center.
In addition to other hospital assignments in the United States, Grobler also spent part of her career at Johannesburg General Hospital in South Africa. At this 2,000-bed teaching hospital, she frequently worked as a charge nurse supervising interns, residents and student nurses. After earning her nursing degree in South Africa, Grobler went on to complete both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Health Administration at Phoenix University. Grobler is a current member of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, the National Association of Neonatal Nurses and the American Organization of Nurse Executives. Sierra Vista is the only hospital in San Luis Obispo County to have a high-risk pregnancy program and, if necessary, the only Neonatal Intensive Care Unit between Santa Barbara and Salinas. Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center is a 164-bed, acute-care provider of tertiary services that has been serving the Central Coast of California for the past 50 years. Since that time the hospital has grown into a leading provider of high-level medical services in San Luis Obispo County. Sierra Vista has added many advanced services as the community has grown and today houses the county’s only neurosurgery program, high-risk pregnancy program, has the county’s only dedicated Pediatric Unit as well as the only Neonatal Intensive Care Unit between Santa Barbara and Salinas. The Birth Center at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center provides a comprehensive range of obstetric and infant services. The center includes labor-delivery-recovery (LDR) suites and a community-level newborn nursery. Sierra Vista also offers comprehensive, patient-centered, family-oriented care for patients with cardiac disease, neurological disorders, orthopedic surgeries, spinal cord and brain injuries, stroke and arthritis. Through its affiliation with California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Sierra Vista has been selected “The Choice of Cal Poly Athletics.” The hospital is fully accredited by The Joint Commission, the nation’s oldest and largest hospital accreditation agency.
