The Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo Daybreak recently named member Brian Conroy as the club’s Rotarian of the Year. Conroy, a local architect and active community volunteer, received the coveted annual award in recognition for his tireless work behind the scenes in the club’s administration and at the weekly meetings. He also played a key role in Rotary’s “Community Garden” project in Meadow Park, a collaborative effort recently completed by the three San Luis Obispo Rotary Clubs.
The award, a well guarded secret until announced at a recent Daybreak Rotary Club function, caught the characteristically humble and quiet Conroy by surprise. “Brian’s dedication to our club goes above and beyond, especially with his work on the Community Garden this year," said Charlene Rosales, the Rotary Club's 2009-10 president. "He embodies the spirit of a true Rotarian and our motto: 'Service Above Self.' " Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. With more than 1.2 million members, there are 30,000 Rotary clubs in 200 countries and geographic territories. The organization has led the private sector in the global effort to rid the world of the crippling disease of Polio for more than 20 years. For more information, please visit www.rotary.org.
