REC Solar, a San Luis Obispo company that specializes in the design and installation of solar energy equipment, now offers the next-generation in home energy monitoring - the TED 5000.
The TED 5000 measures the power consumption of an entire household and makes the power metering information available to consumers, either through their computer, wireless display or a smart phone/PDA.
While "Smart Meters" are designed primarily for the electric utility industry so they can better manage the supply and demand of electricity, TED is designed specifically for consumers, so they can better manage the use and cost of electricity. "TED allows the customer to be in charge," said Ryan Work, Area Sales Manager for REC Solar. "With this energy monitoring system, REC Solar can now give consumers the ability to truly harness the power they generate through their solar electric systems." TED 5000 is comprised of two main parts. The transmitter ("MTU") is installed in an electrical panel and monitors the main incoming electrical power of a households utilities and broadcasts this information through the electrical wires in a home. The receiver unit ("gateway") plugs into a standard household plug and records the power metering information from the MTU. "The TED 5000 is simply a smarter, more cost effective way to reduce electricity use and lower bills," says Work. For more information, visit www.recsolar.com.
