Printer sees green as primary color PDF Print E-mail

Feb. 23, 2010 --

Jano GraphicsJano Graphics announced in February that its green programs have helped to reinforce the company’s history of prioritizing environmental stewardship. With the use of sustainable materials and the preservation of natural resources, Jano Graphics has made its workers’ community safer and their environment cleaner.

At the center of these efforts is responsible paper management. As the primary component of print, it is important to point out that paper itself is a renewable resource, while computers, servers, and other electronics are not. Once a printed product has served its purpose, it begins a new cycle as a new product. In fact, unlike most electronic equipment, 60% of all paper is now being recovered for recycling, reinforcing paper’s continual life cycle.

“We are proud of the significant investment we have made to protect our natural resources and promote the use of recycled paper and paper from certified forests. We hope people will take a closer look at our environmental initiatives,” said VP/General Manager, Fred Jannone.
Jano Graphics conservation initiatives include:

  • Voluntary compliance with the rigorous standards, criteria, and principles established by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
  • Promoting the use of paper from domestic sources to avoid imbedded carbon due to transportation and do not use paper made from trees cut from the Boreal Forest, Indonesia, or other endangered areas.
  • Use of FSC certified papers and packaging materials to meet the growing demand for responsibly sourced forest products. FSC labels make sustainable forestry less anonymous. With a visual cue, they help customers verify that certified forest products—from envelopes and juice boxes to magazines—are legal and responsible.
  • Ensuring that the majority of printed ads and direct mail pieces are printed on recycled or environmentally sustainable paper with inks that are vegetable-based and do not use heavy metals.

“Together these initiatives demonstrate our ongoing commitment to conservation,” added Jannone. “We will continually explore new green technologies that support our environmental standards.”
