The Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour made its second annual stop at Cuesta College on April 14. San Luis Obispo County residents, business people and students attended the event to learn from young entrepreneurs that have achieved professional success. The goal of the nationwide Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour is to have college students around the nation graduate with an entrepreneurial mindset. "With state unemployment at a record high and job prospects grim, more and more college students are thinking about starting their own businesses," said Israel Dominguez, director of the Business Assistance Center at Cuesta College. "The Tour helps students take the next step by offering inspirational and practical advice."
Both emerging entrepreneurs and students of all disciplines were invited to attend to learn how they can apply the entrepreneurial mindset to their lives regardless of career choice. The one-day event included a keynote speaker, workshops, speed networking and panel discussions. According to Dominguez, small businesses with fewer than 20 employees are responsible for 35 percent of all jobs in the nation's largest state. Students and entrepreneurs will learn how to start small businesses of their own at your events. The event was sponsored by the Business Assistance Center at Cuesta College. The mission of the Business Assistance Center at Cuesta College is to assist businesses and industry sectors in San Luis Obispo County and surrounding areas to retain or expand their businesses, thus strengthening the local economy, increasing wealth and quality of life. "Cuesta College and the Business Assistance Center are looking for new ways to generate innovative businesses that create jobs and strengthen our local economy," Dominguez said. "Bringing the Extreme entrepreneurship Tour to our college campus is an out-of-the-box strategy that taps a largely overlooked resource: the creativity and energy of our students.” For more information about the day’s events, visit www.extremetour.org.
