In a historic move, the San Luis Obispo Historical Society and Historical Museum has officially changed its name. The 50-plus-year-old organization has changed its name to the History Center of San Luis Obispo County. The History Center name fully encompasses what the organization is: a center devoted to history in every aspect. The center continues to bring county history to the public through educational exhibits and programming but we are also a learning and research center where classes and events can help stoke an interest and understanding of history.
Over the next few months, the center will have a new logo, new signage and a new website – www.historycenterslo.org. The new site has some pretty exciting features like online access to the History Center's collection database holding more than 30,000 records. Users will be able to track down the history of their home, family, or city through the database. Users will also be able to select and purchase beautiful historic photographs from a new online gift shop. The History Center is now open every day, except Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Its public research room is open and available to the public Wednesday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit www.historycenterslo.org or call (805) 543-0638.
