Taking to heart the Jewish tradition of Tzekakah on the occasion of her Bat Mitzvah, Templeton Middle School student Alli Mundee recently donated 105 DVDs to the Pediatric Unit at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center. Tzedakah (pronounced suh-doc-uh), is the Hebrew word for charity. Mundee was recently Bat Mitzvah at Congregation Ohr Tzafon in Atascadero where she was encouraged to take on a community project. By collecting new and used DVDs from families at Templeton Middle School and each of the Templeton elementary schools as well as at her temple, Mundee collected more than 200 DVDs, half of which she sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis and half to the only dedicated Pediatric Unit in San Luis Obispo County, which is housed at Sierra Vista. The DVDs were made immediately available to brighten the hospital stay for children at Sierra Vista.
