The seventh annual KCOY Holiday Turkey Drive was a huge success again this year. On Nov. 18, Central Coast residents dropped off donations all day in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. It was televised on KCOY CBS 12 and FOX 11. Good Samaritan is distributing donations in Santa Barbara County. The Food Bank of San Luis Obispo County is distributing donations in San Luis Obispo County. The food and money donated in each county stays in their respective counties.
More than 2,000 turkeys, 6 chickens, 1 ham, more than $15,000 in cash donations, and 6,000 pounds of food were raised.
“It’s just incredible how the community responds by digging as deep as they can,” said Kevin, Harlan, KCOY general manager. “They embrace the idea that even though Thanksgiving is one day, it gives everyone hope and a time to celebrate family around a table full of food.” The KCOY Holiday Turkey Drive ensures that those less fortunate will have a traditional turkey dinner. We want to thank all of the Central Coast residents who donated turkeys, food or cash to such a great cause. KCOY CBS 12 and FOX 11 partnered with Knight Broadcasting radio stations for this year’s turkey drive. The television stations, along with KUHL, Mix 96 and KRAZY Country promoted the event beforehand, and then broadcasted all day Nov. 18 from drop-off locations. In these turbulent economic times, more people than ever from all walks of life donated turkeys, food and money to this great cause. This is a tribute to the people who live on the Central Coast.
