Dec. 10, 2009 --- The grand opening of fine jewelry manufacturer boutique Baxter Moerman is this Saturday. The boutique is located at 1118 Morro St. in downtown San Luis Obispo, and the grand opening will include light refreshments on Dec. 12 from 5 to 9 p.m. Matthew Moerman and Matthew Baxter formed the company Baxter Moerman in 2007 after working together at a local jewelry store for six years and attaining the necessary skills to create exquisite jewelry. They learned that they both shared a common design aesthetic and working style.
Moerman is a fourth-generation resident of San Luis Obispo, as well as a fourth-generation business owner in the city. Baxter moved to San Luis Obispo from Virginia in 2000 after receiving and art degree with a concentration in metals and jewelry from James Madison University. Baxter Moerman began with a core line of 18K gold jewelry influenced heavily by the Central Coast’s natural beauty. In November of this year, Baxter Moerman opened a small shop at 1118 Morro St, an exclusive space that contains a workshop for creating and a showroom to display the finished pieces. The jeweler’s unique designs incorporate different textures on the surface of the gold, accentuating the color and warmth of each metal. Acknowledging a global responsibility, only conflict-free diamonds and recycled gold (refined from scrap, no new mining) are used in Baxter Moerman jewelry.
