Green companies celebrate first Solar Fest with local school PDF Print E-mail

Solarponics booth at first Solar FestSolarponics, the longest continually owned and operated solar company in California, recently participated in The Laureate School’s first Solar Fest earlier on May 6.

The Solar Fest was created to help raise awareness of sustainable practices, raise money for the school’s Life Lab program and celebrate the coming of summer. Nearly 100 people attended the festival, including students, families, staff members, and community members. Other local businesses that participated included REC Solar, First Solar, SLO Botanical Gardens and Cal Poly, to name a few.

“We have been studying solar and alternative energy all year," said Heather Noyes, Laureate’s Life Lab and science teacher. "Some students and parents expressed interest about installing solar at their homes. This was one of the main reasons why I hosted the Solar Fest event – to raise further awareness and to connect parents with the local solar companies.”

The festival included various craft activities, games, a yoga session and performances by the Banana Slug String Band, who played on a completely solar-powered stage.  Guests could also experiment with several activities surrounding clean energy, such as baking nachos with a solar powered oven.

“We participated because it was an opportunity to reach out to future generations.  The children of today will have a major impact on our world; in many ways, the future is theirs.  We also wanted to spread the good word about solar energy and all its benefits, both financial and environmental,” said Lawson Schaller, inside salesman for Solarponics.

Solarponics is one of the Central Coast’s alternative energy pioneers, helping residents achieve energy independence for over 35 years. The longest continuously owned and operated solar company in California, Solarponics has been family owned and operated since 1975.

Solarponics can install and service solar electric systems, solar hot water, wind energy systems, solar pool heating and radiant heating systems. For more information, visit solarponics.com.
