Come June 1, popular downtown bed and breakfast Garden Street Inn begins its first summer season under the management of John Spears. Spears has been the manager and innkeeper of the Garden Street Inn since October 2009 but is no stranger to the hospitality industry. He has more than 20 years of experience and has worked in such exotic locales as Hawaii’s Big Island and the slopes of Colorado. Returning back to his roots, the Santa Margarita Lakes native says he is glad to be back home on the Central Coast, and loves to help others feel at home while they stay at the Inn.
Spears brings a unique local flair to the establishment and is excited to start implementing changes. Plans are in place to repaint the whole front façade of the Victorian house by the end of summer, along with numerous other updates to the 120-year-old dwelling. All of these improvements are just one of the ways Spears plans to execute one of his goals “to put the Inn on the map where it belongs.” Spears, when he’s not chatting with guests, can be found around town visiting local business owners with a plate of cookies straight from the Inn’s kitchen, reminding locals and tourists alike that the historical bed and breakfast is located in the heart of downtown. The Garden Street Inn’s old world elegance and prime location at 1212 Garden Street in San Luis Obispo have been charming visitors from around the world for the past 20 years. Guests have their choice in choosing from 13 unique rooms and enjoying both a wine and hors d'oeuvre reception each evening and fully cooked breakfast each morning.
