FunRide, a local car sharing service that features alternative fuel and hybrid vehicles, announced they are now able to serve college students age 18 years and older. FunRide has been providing car sharing services in San Luis Obispo County for the past two years for drivers 21 years and older.  College students need to provide proof of insurance and must have a clean driving record.  FunRide currently has nine vehicles available for their members.

FunRide offers members green cars, trucks and vans that can be rented by the hour or the day.  Members can reserve the vehicle of their choice online or by phone 24/7.  They receive a “fob” that allows entry to all the vehicles that are scattered throughout the community for convenient access for customers.  FunRide is used by businesses to replace fleet vehicles, day commuters, visitors staying at local hotels, and individuals who are looking to reduce their transportation costs. 
    
FunRide features electric plug-in, natural gas, biodiesel, propane, flex fuel, and hybrid vehicles for their customers to lease.  Car sharing is available in a total of 50 cities around the United States, where many residents do not have a car.  With the recession challenging people’s budgets, FunRide provides vehicles to drive without the high cost of owning a vehicle. FunRide will also allow customers to try alternative fuel vehicles that reduce our use of gasoline.
