 The French Hospital Medical Center (FHMC) Foundation is proud to announce that more than $120,000 was raised during its annual fundraising “Celebration of Caring” Gala held August 27, 2011. The funds raised will be used for life-saving programs and services at FHMC. Of the total amount raised, $11,300 will go directly to the Angel of Hope Fund, a fund established through the Hearst Cancer Resource Center at FHMC, which provides immediate assistance for basic medical needs of cancer patients and their families.
The FHMC Foundation also presented the 2011 Louis Tedone, M.D. Humanitarian Award, sponsored by Founders Community Bank, to Frank and Betsey Kelton for their involvement with charitable organizations that have improved the quality of health care throughout our community.
One of Frank’s many contributions is his creation of the San Luis Ambulance Explorer Program, a unique volunteer program which provides hands-on experience and scholarships. Betsey has held various volunteer leadership roles with the American Heart Association, Hospice Partners of the Central Coast, LifeSpan and Project LifeSaver. Currently she is the president of the Women’s Shelter Program. Past recipients of the Louis Tedone, M.D. Humanitarian Award include Steve Hearst, Phyllis Madonna, Jac Pedersen, D.D.S., Ke-Ping Tsao, M.D. and Rob Rossi for their long-standing reputations for improving the quality of health care locally with professionalism and kindness. In 2006, the first annual gala established the humanitarian award by honoring its namesake, Dr.Tedone, for his 35-year career providing healthcare to the San Luis Obispo community. The sold out event included entertainment, a live and silent auction, and a special wine cellar auction, featuring premiere San Luis Obispo County wines. Major contributors to the Gala was Coast BMW Nissan as the Event Sponsor, and the French Hospital Medical Center Medical Staff was the Platinum Sponsor. The Foundation Gala has become an annual tradition since its establishment in 2006. Since then, the FHMC Foundation has raised more than $732,000 from annual fundraising galas for patients, programs and services at FHMC.
