In celebration of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, French Hospital Medical Center, in collaboration with Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo, is holding a free mammogram clinic this Saturday. The clinic will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at CAPSLO’s clinic located at 705 Grand Ave. in San Luis Obispo.
This clinic will provide the opportunity for women who cannot otherwise afford such exams, or who do not qualify for state or federal programs, to obtain a free clinical breast exam and mammogram. Women interested in receiving a free mammogram must make an appointment for a clinical breast exam by calling CAPSLO at (805) 544-2478. At the time of the exam, women will receive a referral for a same-day, free mammogram screening at FHMC’s Women’s Diagnostic Center, 1911 Johnson Ave. in San Luis Obispo. The center is located in the Pacific Medical Plaza building adjacent to French Hospital Medical Center.
The hospital is proud to offer this opportunity to increase awareness and educate women about the importance of regular mammogram screenings, clinical breast exams and early detection. The free mammogram clinic is made possible through the generosity of the French Hospital Medical Center Foundation and its donors.
Mammography detects breast cancer at its earliest and most treatable stage, even before it can be detected through means of breast self-examination or clinical examination. The Women’s Diagnostic Center at French focuses on patient comfort, support, education and outreach. Women benefit from the unmatched speed and accuracy of digital mammography, breast MRI, stereotactic biopsy. and breast ultrasound. The Women’s Diagnostic Center’s mission is to serve the health needs of all women, even those unable to afford a mammography screening.
