Rob Meyers, MD, recently retired Chief Medical Officer at the California Men’s Colony, has joined Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center as physician liaison assisting the hospital to complete its conversion to a fully implemented Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Throughout the upcoming year Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center will build upon its electronic medical records system to add new functions in clinical documentation, orders management, medical administration, bar coding and reporting. Certified electronic documentation and order entry in laboratory, radiology and surgery were successfully implemented during Phase I last year.
This Phase II initiative will provide physicians and nursing staff with the real-time information they need to treat patients more quickly and accurately. It is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2011.
“The conversion from paper charts and manual processes to secure electronic health records will provide health care providers with immediate access to a patient’s medical history, including past visits, lab results, immunizations and medications,” Meyers said.
Board certified in Family Medicine, Dr. Meyers has been in San Luis Obispo County since 1987. He originally joined the San Luis Medical Specialty Group. He started working for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in 1988 and served in many leadership capacities at the California Men’s Colony before retiring in December 2009.
Dr. Meyers holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Colorado and earned his medical degree at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. He completed his Family Medicine Residency and a Masters Degree in Medical Education at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.
