First Bank of San Luis Obispo employees raised $278 during a month-long "Jeans Day" fundraiser to support United Way of San Luis Obispo County's Community Impact Fund. During the month of November, United Way set up a display in the downtown San Luis Obispo, Calif. and Marigold Center branches. First Bank employees, and their customers, were invited to donate to United Way. Any employee making a contribution was allowed to wear blue jeans to work every Friday throughout the month. Several more dollars were also raised in December through their sale of candy grams.
The donations raised will be used to fund local programs that are focused on education, income and health such as the United Way Youth Board, Money Talks for Teens which is currently taught by volunteers at San Luis Obispo High School, and Nonviolent Communication workshops being offered to local Pre K-9 teachers. “We are always amazed by the creative ways that businesses come up with for their employees to support their community,” said Horace Morana, United Way Resource Development Coordinator. “Easy to do activities such as Jean Day provide employees with a fun goal and reward that creates enthusiasm about community involvement.” First Bank employees have also participated as volunteers in special events this past year such as KidSpree and Stuff the Bus.
