The intersection of Foothill and California Boulevards will be closed each night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Sunday, June 13 through Thursday, June 17, while the City Public Works Department installs new storm drains and traffic signal wiring within the intersection. These installations are being completed in conjunction with the City’s ongoing Railroad Safety Trail expansion, awarded to R. Burke Corporation at a contract amount of $521,000.
This phase of the Railroad Safety Trail will link the recently completed Cal Poly bike trail with the section of the City of San Luis Obispo’s Railroad Safety Trail located between California Boulevard and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. The project includes the construction of a new bike trail between Foothill Boulevard and Cal Poly University, as well as the replacement of traffic signal equipment at the intersection of Foothill and California Boulevards. The work has been scheduled and coordinated with the academic calendars of both Cal Poly and Cuesta College to minimize traffic impacts to students and residents in the area. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
