The Clark Center for the Performing Arts will end its 2009-2010 Performing Arts Season with New York City's legendary improv comedy show Chicago City Limits on May 13 at 7:30 p.m.
Founded in Chicago in 1977 by actors participating in the Second City workshops, Chicago City Limits relocated to New York in 1980 and began an Off-Broadway run of over 8,500 performances. Chicago City Limits has made dozens of TV appearances, including stints on Comedy Central, HBO, CNN, TBS, The Today Show and more. The group also was featured in its own TV news series, Reel News. The Chicago City Limits National Touring Company has performed at such diverse venues as Lincoln Center, The Smithsonian Institute, SuperBowl XXIX and hundreds of colleges and regional theaters across the country.
A Chicago City Limits show combines sketch comedy, musical theater and audience-inspired improvisations. The majority of the show is created on the spot from suggestions called out by audience members. Each performance is a unique collaboration between actors and audience-no two shows are alike. Sketches are as fresh as today's headlines, taking aim at the faces, places and events of the day. At the Clark Center, Chicago City Limits presents their new improv comedy revue, Wikiphobia. The internet is slowly seeping into every corner of our lives and transforming the world as we know it: "Google" is no longer just a number; "Friend" is no longer just a noun; and user-generated virtual facts are as good as actual, factual facts. Whether it's global warming or global blogging, networking or Netflix, international affairs or interpersonal ones, Chicago City Limits will deliver an evening of fast-paced, high-energy comedy on May 13. Tickets for Chicago City Limits are $30-$40 and are on sale now. Call (805) 489-9444 for tickets or come to the Clark Center Box Office at 487 Fair Oaks Avenue, Arroyo Grande. Clark Center Association members may receive a discount for shows presented by the Association. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.clarkcenter.org.
