This May, Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Luis Obispo County and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department joined forces to celebrate National Bike Month.
Sergeant Schwiebert and Officer Bishop delivered eight donated bikes, much to the delight of the Little Brothers and Sisters. Little Sister Marylee expressed her appreciation, saying, "I love my purple bike and helmet. I am excited to try out my new bike on bike night!" Big Brothers Big Sisters says they couldn't agree more. Bicycling helps children achieve vital developmental assets, such as finding constructive use of time and making healthy lifestyle choices.
Cycling enthusiasts suggest that cycling gives children a sense of control and responsibility, while promoting personal wellness and environmental friendliness. Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Luis Obispo County nurtures children's growth by supporting one-to-one mentoring relationships. Since opening its doors in 1995, Big Brothers Big Sisters has matched more than 1,300 children with caring, committed members of the Central Coast community. Thanks to the SLO Country Sherriff’s Department, Big Brothers Big Sisters is able to continue a cycle of growth and support, providing a fun and healthy experience through bicycling for eight Littles and Bigs.
