AeroMech to expand into new SLO facility PDF Print E-mail

Recent growth and new business propel AeroMech Engineering (AME) to double its production and engineering space at new corporate headquarters in San Luis Obispo.

AME, a leading engineering and manufacturing firm supporting the Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) market, has recently signed a deal with Vachell Lane Properties, LLC to expand into new space at 125 Venture Drive in San Luis Obispo.

The building was previously occupied by Dioptics, Inc. and offers 37,000 square feet of office and 79,000 square feet of high-bay warehouse space. AME will occupy a mix of office and warehouse space totaling 78,000 square feet. AME, established in 1999, will use the new space to improve its operation while expanding production capacity in response to new business. AME builds high-endurance special mission UAS's and provides aeronautical, mechanical, electrical and software engineering capabilities as well as full system manufacturing services to defense customers worldwide.

One of the largest quantity producers of unmanned aircraft in the world, AME has delivered over 1500 fully autonomous UAS's of varying types ranging from 4-lb battery-powered aircraft to its flagship new aircraft the Fury™. AME is a full-system company, able to provide all components of a modern UAS, including payloads, control systems, and their next-generation UAS Mission Management and Planning system SharkFin®.

AME recently sold a controlling share of the company to Chandler/May, Inc. of Huntsville, Alabama. Chandler/May has long been a leading provider of UAS Ground Control Stations to the US defense market.

Jay McConville, President and Chief Executive Officer of AME, commented, "The unmanned systems market is growing rapidly, and this move will allow for continued expansion in San Luis Obispo and enable us to better serve our customers. Our partnership with Vachell Lane Properties has been excellent, and the economic efficiencies achieved in this new lease will benefit both organizations, San Luis Obispo, California, and of course our customers."

"AME has expanded during 2009 and 2010, increasing its staff in 2010 by more than 10 percent," said Thomas Brake, AME's Director of Engineering. "Future growth is expected, and we continue to seek qualified applicants for a number of positions within the company. This new facility will provide an excellent place to work for our dedicated team of engineers and manufacturing technicians."

AME and Vachell Lane Properties signed a lease agreement on Monday, November 22, 2010. After a construction period, AME will take occupancy in February of 2011.
