FunRide expands to Ventura PDF Print E-mail

FunRide, a local car sharing service that features alternative fuel and hybrid vehicles, announced they have expanded their services into Ventura.  They began services on October 1 with a Honda Hybrid Insight at a pod in Ventura.  They also plan to begin services in Santa Maria later in October.
FunRide has been providing car sharing services in San Luis Obispo County for the past two years.  They currently have ten vehicles in service and logged over 800 hours of vehicle leasing per month. FunRide is also meeting with a focus group in Santa Barbara to begin car sharing services there later in the year also.

Locals celebrate conservation at zoo PDF Print E-mail
The Charles Paddock Zoo's Conservation Celebration had over 471 attendees to help celebrate conservation and how it can have far-reaching effects on our environment. The event had 22 exhibitors that ranged from nonprofits, government agencies, educational institutions and businesses. Solarponics was the first solar company to participate in the celebration.
 
"Solarponics feels that if the world is going to shift towards renewables, then it must begin with educating the youth.  Once our future leaders understand the impact of their actions and recognize that the solutions are available, we can begin to move forward.  So when we get the opportunity to educate our local youth, we love to take advantage of it," said Kristian Emrich, vice president of Solarponics.

Local company debuts new packaging at SAVOR PDF Print E-mail
Bloom Microgreens, a local company that specializes in providing the Central Coast with micro lettuces, shoots and herbs, will debut its new eco-friendly packaging at Sunset Magazine’s SAVOR the Central Coast event. The new packaging material is plant-based instead of petroleum-based, making it biodegradable and compostable. The packaging was updated by Recipe, a food and beverage marketing firm in San Luis Obispo.
 
"I wanted to use packaging that was not only better for the product but also better for the environment. I have, from the beginning of Bloom Microgreens, looked to be sustainable as a company," said Kara Wood, owner of Bloom Microgreens.

Less than a year ago, Forbes Magazine declared Groupon- link: www.groupon.com “the fastest growing company ever.” Last December, Groupon, a literal conjunction of ‘group-coupon,’ turned down Google’s $6 billion buy-out offer. Most of us are aware of Groupon’s business model: price reduction through bulk purchasing, aka economies of scale. Groupon’s web-based platform enables businesses to drive consumer demand. Customers are able to achieve 50 to 90 percent savings for bike tune-ups, sushi, or a weekend in Las Vegas. Recently, solar contractors in the Bay Area used Groupon to develop several hundred solar projects discounted through bulk purchasing of PV panels.

Solarthon comes to the Central Coast PDF Print E-mail

Come join GRID Alternatives in bringing the annual solar installation block party to Templeton. Solarthon is a fundraiser that brings together hundreds of individuals, teams and corporate participants from the community to install multiple solar energy systems alongside homeowners. There will be guest speakers at the ribbon cutting ceremony.

The event will take place on Oct. 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Terebinth Lane at Peterson Ranch Road.
