A recently released study by the San Luis Obispo Fire Department finds the passage of Measure H could increase emergency response times by as much as two to three minutes in some parts of the city.
Measure H, the so-called "Prado Road Initiative," seeks to halt the City’s long standing plan to extend Prado Road through to Broad Street. A coalition of city residents, community leaders and elected officials has organized to defeat the measure. The SLO Fire Department report, titled “Measure H-10: Public Safety Impacts Analysis,” is available online at www.slocity.org/cityclerk/elections/2010/measureh/resources.asp.
The report states that the passage of Measure H would significantly impact Fire Station 1 response times to the residential areas in the northeastern section of the Margarita Area, and affect Fire Station 3’s ability to respond to areas along Prado Road, including the South Higuera Street intersection. "As residents of this community, we cannot sit by and watch a bad idea put our families in harm’s way," said John Spatafore, who chairs the more than 100 member-strong No on H Committee. "A dead end to Prado Road is unacceptable. We are asking voters to stand up for safety with a loud vote of No on H,” said the former president of the San Luis Coastal Unified School District board." Spatafore heads the citizens’ committee that has formed to defeat Measure H. Other No on H leaders include AYSO Coach Stacey White, local CPA Hillary Trout and former SLO City Council member John Ewan. Additional information on the No on H campaign is available online at www.NoOnMeasureH.com or by contacting Spatafore at (805) 541-6166.
