What you need to know - preparing for a fire
A fire can devastate any business that isn’t well-prepared. Earlier this month, a terrible fire demolished Cabo San Luis and ripped through Kona’s Deli nearly destroying the popular eatery. Insurance aside, what can you do to better plan for a similar situation? Hear Fire Chief John Callahan speak about how local businesses can prevent and prepare for fires.

The Republic of Rwanda is known recently as one of the world’s biggest success stories. The country has made an incredible recovery since the infamous 1994 genocide, and now has one of the most advanced communications networks in the world. Bob Fasulkey, director of engineering for Digital West Networks, Inc., provided technical consultation for the design and implementation of Rwanda’s countrywide voice and data network. Richard Morgan, green building and sustainability manager for Austin Energy, the municipal electric utility of Austin, TX, will talk about how that city has used a variety of programs to meet its citizens’ demands for a more sustainable, more livable city. Can this model work for SLO?
 
Retired judge on local judicial system
After more than 40 years as a public servant, 17 of which was spent on the Superior Court bench in San Luis Obispo, Roger Picquet retired in January. Some say he earned his nickname "All Day Picquet" either because he worked so diligently or because he has a "gift for the gab." You decide, as he gives us his witty and irreverent perspective on the condition of the local judicial system.
 
Tank Farm update from Chevron
Suzanne ParkerChevron and its predecessor Union Oil of California have a history in the Tank Farm property in SLO dating back to the late 1800s. Chevron is embarking now on a huge remediation project on this beautiful but troubled area south of the city. Suzanne Parker, Chevron’s regional public affairs manager, will tell us what Chevron's plans are for remediation, restoration and limited development on the site and how its plans will affect residents and business owners. 
 
A little bit of Opera to start the day 
"La bohème", the inspiration for the hit Broadway musical "Rent", captures the devotion and love of two poor Bohemians who can be neither together nor apart. Opera San Luis Obispo (formerly Pacific Repertory Opera) will perform a piece of this passionate and soulful story for our audience.
