The best Thursday of the month has come and gone yet again. This month’s agenda included state parks, the new city advertising contract, food safety, and private jet services.

Nick Franco To launch the event, State Parks District Superintendent Nick Franco addressed members regarding the uncertain future of local state parks, which Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed to stop funding through the general fund to help close the state’s monumental budget deficit. Parks that are not funded through the general fund or support themselves – which include Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area and Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument – are not on the proposed closure list.

dsc_3449_publish LEVEL Studios President/CEO Tom Adamski spoke about the explosive growth of the digital agency’s business and recent rebranding from Web Associates. The local company, which counts among its clients Apple, Cisco, HP and Research In Motion (which makes BlackBerry), noted its strong connection to Cal Poly and the County airport as key to continuing to be successful from its San Luis Obispo headquarters.

dsc_3434_publish Bill Borgsmiller, presisdent of the San Luis Jet Center and Aviation Consultants Inc , dispelled some of the myths of corporate jet travel and explained the economic significance of general aviation to our region. He noted that it is often more economical and convenient for local businesses to utilize corporate jets. He explained that it is an important complement to commercial air service.

dsc_3445_publish The morning line-up also included Matt Lewis of Guardian Food Safety. With tainted food supply stories regularly appearing in the national media, Lewis explained simple but important ways members can keep their food safe.

dsc_3438_publish This month’s Good Morning SLO also featured authentic Irish dance from The Claddagh Dance Company, and soapboxes from the AIDS Support Network, Clever Ducks, Black Horse Espresso and Bakery, the City of SLO, Achievement House, and FunRide.
