New Year brings new board, chair
It’s a first for the Chamber: A former city councilmember and city planning commissioner is the 2010 chairperson of the board. John Ewan is the owner and president of Pacific Energy Company, a local solar and alternative energy retailer he founded in 1980. He’ll discuss his personal vision and goals for the Chamber this year.

A fond farewell
After 20 years of exemplary service at City Hall, Ken Hampian retired from his post as city manager last week. Ken will reflect on his career and on the essential ingredients for good local democracy. He’ll also introduce new City Manager Katie Lichtig.

SLO’s economic future spelled out in vision
The Chamber recently released the latest version of its Economic Vision, a document first published in 1993 that charts a course for the region’s economic development. Jeff Buckingham, chairperson of the Chamber’s Economic Vision Task Force, will showcase this fourth version and its strategies for ensuring a bright future for business and residents.

Marketing tips for rough time
As president of Barnett Cox & Associates, Maggie Cox has a special talent for public relations and marketing that stems from her extensive background in communications and her genuine interest in her clients. These troubling economic times demand some unique strategies. Maggie will provide us with marketing tips for the New Year and decade.

A new form of journalism
Journalism is in a state of change and Karen Velie, co-founder of CalCoastNews, can tell us all about it. She founded CalCoastNews in January 2008 in an effort to bring investigative news to the Central Coast. This professional journalist who has interviewed national figures such as Bill Gates and Warren Buffett will tell us all about this new venture how she feels it differs from traditional media. Karen will also give us her perspective on what the future holds for journalism.

“Swingin’ with Sinatra”
Frank Sinatra was America's first superstar and virtually invented modern pop song phrasing with an extraordinary voice and incredible emotional depth. The SLO Little Theatre will perform a piece from “Swingin’ with Sinatra,” as part of its ever-popular Legends Series show. “Swingin’ with Sinatra” will run Feb. 19 through March 21.
