Join a Chamber committee PDF Print E-mail
Written by Whitney Diaz

The heart of the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce’s business advocacy and public policy review is the committee system, where more than 100 members share their expertise and knowledge to help the Chamber make good decisions.

Now is your opportunity to join a committee of your choice. All committees re-form every January, so even current committee members must reapply. Any Chamber member can apply to join a committee.

“Our committees make a tremendous difference in the business community as well as the community as a whole, but it’s very important to get a wide variety of applicants to ensure the vitality and diversity of each committee and to make sure we have a proportional representation of our membership,” said Chamber President/CEO Dave Garth.

Chamber opposes dead end measure PDF Print E-mail

prado road map The San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted to oppose an initiative that seeks to prevent the planned extension of Prado Road.

The initiative, which will be discussed at the San Luis Obispo City Council tonight, is expected to be placed on the November ballot for voters to decide.

The Chamber believes that the initiative – if passed – will have significant adverse effects on traffic circulation, neighborhood safety, areas already zoned for affordable housing, and local businesses.

“This type of ballot box governance not only provides no alternative solution to the extension of Prado Road, but it creates many foreseeable problems, including increased traffic congestion at Tank Farm Road and South Street, creating unnecessary hazards for the existing neighborhoods on those roads,” said John Ewan, chairman of the SLO Chamber’s Board of Directors. “The last thing San Luis Obispo needs now is another road to nowhere.”
