SLO Film Festival: fall movie events PDF Print E-mail

The San Luis Obispo International Film Festival (SLOIFF) is proud to collaborate with a number of Central Coast organizations to present three
movie events in September, and two in October to be announced soon.

Two Short Film programs will be presented in North and South County. Popular and award-winning short films from this year's film festival will be screened first on Sept. 10, in the idyllic back garden of the Avila Bay Athletic Club & Spa. A wine reception hosted by Sculpterra Winery will begin at 7 p.m. followed by the movie program, introduced by SLOIFF Festival Director, Wendy Eidson.

Sunset Magazine Savor: live cooking competition PDF Print E-mail

Two Morro Bay chefs will face off on Oct. 1  at the 2011 “Battle of the Bay” competition sponsored by Sunset Magazine. Neil Smith, executive chef for Windows on the Water and winner of the 2010 contest, will defend his title against Shawn Washburn of Shawn’s on Main Street. Battle of the Bay is one of the highlights of the Savor the Central Coast culinary event Saturday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. at the historic Santa Margarita Ranch in San Luis Obispo County.

The four-day event, co-produced by Sunset Magazine and the SLO County Visitors & Conference Bureau, attracts attendees from throughout North America for a celebration of the wines, produce, meat and seafood that are the hallmarks of the San Luis Obispo County area. Attendees will enjoy tastings and demonstrations, working gardens and educational presentations at the ranch, tours of oyster and abalone farms, sustainable vegetable operations and other attractions. The event will include a special presentation by Cat Cora, an “Iron Chef” on the Food Network.

Talley to release 2009 Pinot Noir PDF Print E-mail

Come celebrate the release of Talley Vineyard’s renowned 2009 single vineyard Pinot Noirs from the Arroyo Grande and Edna Valleys on Aug. 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the tasting room.

Home tours to raise funds for Rotary PDF Print E-mail
Guests will have an exclusive look into the homes of five distinct and interesting couples as the Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo presents the 11th Annual “Homes of Distinction” Tour, Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each home has a unique ambiance where art, décor and landscaping tells the stories of their lives.
 
Proceeds from the Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo “Homes of Distinction” Tour benefit charitable efforts. Past charitable contributions include the gazebo at Mitchell Park, scholarship and mentor programs for high school and college students, vocational opportunities for students and international health care projects. 

Tickets to tour the five homes are $25 per person and include refreshments served at the Bergman Home, courtesy of Madonna Inn and Trader Joe’s. Tickets are available for purchase at the San Luis Obispo, Arroyo Grande and Atascadero Chambers of Commerce, Santa Barbara First Bank and Trust (San Luis Obispo & Marigold Center), Founders Bank and Blakeslee & Blakeslee locations.
