French HospitalThe Hearst Cancer Resource Center at French Hospital Medical Center in San Luis Obispo us hosting a seminar in honor of all women during a free Women’s Day Tea.

Those events will occur Wednesday, May 5 at French Hospital Medical Center in the hospital’s Auditorium from 2 p.m. to 4 p..m.

"The highlight of these events will be informative presentations by local professionals of special interest to women. Women can take this opportunity to enjoy a relaxing cup of tea and educate themselves," said Katherine Guthrie, Regional Director, CHW Central Coast Cancer Service Areas. "We would like to show our appreciation and admiration for the difference women make in the lives of their children, families and communities."

The Cuesta College Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS) is hosting a fundraiser dinner and auction to benefit Cuesta College students with disabilities on May 7 at Mitchella Winery.

Cuesta College Superintendent/President Dr. Gil Stork will be the auctioneer for the event and broadcasting faculty member Wendy Wagoner will serve as master of ceremonies.

Cuesta College to host Ag Welding State Finals PDF Print E-mail

Cuesta College will host the California FFA Agricultural Welding State Finals for high school students on Saturday, May 1 from 7:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Eighty high school students from around the state, including Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria, Atascadero, Templeton and Shandon, will compete in a series of events for the state title and a share of $10,000 worth of equipment and prizes.

A Holocaust survivor's story, today in SLO PDF Print E-mail

The Jewish Community Center of San Luis Obispo and the Congregation Beth David will host Holocaust survivor Sara Moses today at 7 p.m.

Moses was one of the youngest children without parents to survive a Jewish ghetto and two Nazi concentration camps, Ravensbruck and Bergen-Belsen, where Anne Frank died. She will tell her story, one that moves audiences to tears. 

In recent years, Moses has spoken to thousands of live audiences and millions more over the radio. Her story inspires people of all ages to see life from a new perspective. In her own words, she shares the lessons she learned from the Holocaust, which she believes can help communities today in dealing with a world still filled with cruelty, violence and genocide. 

The event will be held at the Congregation Beth David, 10180 Los Osos Valley Road in San Luis Obispo.

Cuesta College welcomes California Community Colleges Chancellor Dr. Jack Scott and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell to a Chancellor’s Forum on April 29 to address pivotal issues facing California’s community colleges.

The forum is open to members of the public from 11 a.m. to noon in room 5401 on the San Luis Obispo campus.

It will include an introduction from Cuesta College’s Superintendent/President Dr. Gilbert H. Stork, a message from both Dr. Scott and O’Connell and a panel discussion with the participants and Henry Ramos, member of the Community Colleges Board of Governors.

Miller's Equestrian Center Sanctuary Miller's Equestrian Center and Sanctuary is having a wine tasting/food pairing at Per Bacco winery in San Luis Obispo.

Join them as each wine is described and combined with mouth watering dishes.  All proceeds benefit the rescue and care of horses.

The Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo Daybreak is hosting its 6th Annual Casino Night Fundraiser on May 1 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the San Luis Obispo Veteran’s Hall, 801 Grand Avenue. 

Casino Night will include  gaming tables, a Cinco de Mayo dinner, live music, live and silent auctions, and raffle drawings. 

All proceeds benefit local community service projects, local educational and vocational scholarships, and Rotary International service projects.

The Santa Maria Philharmonic Society presents San Luis Obispo piano virtuoso Rudolf Budginas at the Clark Center for the Performing Arts in Arroyo Grande on April 30 at 8 p.m.

Hailed by the press as "A young, hip Victor Borge-like entertainer," the Lithuanian-born and internationally renowned concert pianist has delighted audiences worldwide and acquired a slew of international awards and honors.  Budginas returns to the Central Coast in April 2010 from an 82-city tour to conquer the hearts, minds, ears and funny bones of American music lovers.
