Businesses having to deal with recession woes are in luck. SCORE, Counselors to America’s Small Business, presents a business workshop to address key issues facing businesses today.
The workshop will focus on financial reports, presented by Christina Gibford and Glenn Burdette; marketing and customer focus, presented by Larry Rutter from the SCORE Marketing Committee; and effective handling of Human Resource issues, presented by Melinda Thomas, president of FIT Financial.
Aimed at individuals who have been in business from one to three years, the free SCORE workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 22 in the conference room of the City/County Library, 995 Palm Street in San Luis Obispo.

The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, formerly the SLO Art Center, recognizes that film making is a visual art form and is delighted to present a series of outstanding documentary movies inspired by its current exhibitions. Each film has been carefully selected to enhance your experience of the Art Center’s exhibits and to deepen your understanding of the work on display. The current exhibit is Perfect Stranger: Robert Chapman. The show features magnificent abstract works by the San Miguel artist, which leads to the film, "Who Gets to Call it Art?" by Peter Rosen. The showtime is May 18 at 7 p.m. at the art museum, 1010 Broad Street. |

On Sunday, May 23 hundreds of community are expected to gather to celebrate one of this area’s most generous citizens, Diane Blakeslee Brocato. Brocato has supported the growth of the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art since its early days as an Art Association in the 1960s. All the arts organizations in the county owe much of their success to her philanthropic spirit. |

San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, formerly the SLO Art Center, hosts a special lecture on contemporary abstract painting on Sunday afternoon. The presenter, Daniel Dove, an assistant professor and area coordinator of studio art at Cal Poly University, is a fine artist in his own right. Dove graduated with an MFA in painting from Yale University and his work appears in public collections in Malibu, Ohio, and Germany. |

The Cuesta College Fashion Design and Merchandising department is hosting a student fashion showcase on May 11 for fashion design and merchandising students that have participated in the program since the fall 2009 semester. The entries will include a variety of projects from the fashion design and merchandising industries, including story boards, garments, illustrations, class projects and designs. |

A trio of experts is heading to SLO County on Wednesday, June 2 with information on the local, state and national economies. 
The first-ever "Mid Year Update" by the UCSB Economic Forecast Project, hosted by the Atascadero and Paso Robles Chambers of Commerce, will feature presentations by economists Chris Thornberg and Brad Kemp of Beacon Economics along with Sacramento political pundit Dan Walters. The event is a follow up to the November Forecast which annually attracts more than 400 business and community leaders. |

On Saturday, June 5, the San Luis Obispo Symphony will hold the annual Bach 'n Birdies Golf Tournament at the Avila Beach Golf Resort in beautiful Avila Beach.
The four man/woman scramble and the noon shot-gun start will allow all to finish in time to enjoy a post-tournament dinner, provided by McPhee's Grill. A tournament raffle is currently being orchestrated and will include an assortment of fabulous prizes, including Dodger baseball tickets, Central Coast wine packages, rounds of golf and more. |
