The much-anticipated Concerts in the Plaza summer concert series kicks off its 15th season tonight with performances from The Viper Six. Thousands of people flock every year to downtown San Luis Obispo every Friday between June 4 and August 27 for a free, two-hour concert from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in beautiful Mission Plaza. This year's concert series features the best local musicians from Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. Local restaurants and eateries provide snacks and food for hungry concertgoers while Firestone Brewery and Edna Valley Vineyards supply beer and wine for purchase. Non-alcoholic beverages are provided as well. More than 50 bands apply each year to fill the 13 week line-up and past participants include Central Coast favorites: Resination, Damon Castillo Band, Big Daddy’s Blues Band, Still Time, Siko and many more. |

The SLO Blues baseball team hosts Conejo Oaks June 8 in its first California Collegiate League Opener - which also happens to be San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce Night at Sinsheimer Stadium.
Throwing out the Ceremonial First Pitch prior to the game will be John Ewan, the 2010 chair of the SLO Chamber Board of Directors and owner of Pacific Energy Company. The game begins at 7:05 p.m. Fans get to keep all foul balls as souvenirs courtesy of that night's Free Foul Ball Sponsor, Club 24. Rendezvous at the Ranch, a benefit for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of San Luis Obispo County, is an evening in August that includes dinner by Chef Jose Dahan of local French bistro Et Voila, live music, silent and art auction, live auction and a raffle to win an instant wine cellar of super premium Central Coast wines and wine refrigerator. The benefit's Emcees will be Katie Marzullo and Arturo Santiago, of KCOY12 and FOX 11, respectively.

The Villages of San Luis Obispo and Sierra Vista Medical Center are partnering to honor and recognize Older Americans Month. To celebrate, the Villages will host a Senior Wellness Expo on Thursday. Festivities will continue from 1 to 4 p.m. at 55 Broad Street, in San Luis Obispo. Lots of free giveaways including stroke prevention/Risk Assessment by Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, blood pressure checks by French Hospital, cholesterol screenings by Central Coast Pathology, guest speakers, free refreshments and healthy snacks provided by the Villages and live music by The Mudskippers.
The Village's and Sierra Vista Medical Center will be presenting Jack and Elaine LaLanne the Wellness for Life Achievement Award. Elaine LaLanne will be in attendance to say a few words and a presentation on Jack’s lifetime work will start at 2 p.m. "This award is the perfect opportunity to recognize seniors in our community that have made a difference," says Jack Witter, CEO of The Villages of San Luis Obispo.
