Auditions for the Clark Center Search for the Stars Competition will be held from noon to 5 p.m. March 13 at the Clark Center for the Performing Arts in Arroyo Grande.
Twenty five acts will be selected to compete in the semifinals of the competition on April 18. Five local theatre and music professionals, including Erik Austin of Kelrik Productions, Pepper Daniels of American General Media, Kevin Harris of SLO Little Theatre and Jenny Shaheen of Chameleon Productions, will chose 15 finalists to compete for the Grand prize. The finals jury will include Loch Powell, an entertainment manager for Leverage Management in LA and Erik Stein, the casting director of PCPA Theaterfest in Santa Maria. |

The Vocal Arts Ensemble singers will be guest bartenders at Corner View Restaurant on March 3 to raise money for the non-profit organization. The free forum will also screen the “SLOtheStigma” and “Shaken Tree” documentaries Feb. 19, 2010 -- In September 2000, Kevin Hines arrived at the Golden Gate Bridge ready to die. He walked to the railing, climbed over it and jumped. He is one of only 29 people to every survive that jump, and now actively spreads the message of suicide prevention and living mentally well. Hines will be the keynote speaker for "Journey of Hope," an educational mental wellness forum presented by the Peer Advisory & Advocacy Team and Family Services of Transitions-Mental Health Association (TMHA) next week. The forum will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, February 26, at the chambers of the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors. The event is free and offers free continuing education units (CEUs) through San Luis Obispo County Behavioral Health Services. In addition to the keynote address, attendees will view “The Shaken Tree: Families Living with Mental Illness,” an award-winning documentary featuring stories from local families about life with someone who has a mental illness. Presented to more than 5,000 people throughout California, “The Shaken Tree” challenges popular culture’s archetype of mental illness. The 2010 Tour will focus on an eclectic selection of architectural styles and is entitled: Secrets of Six “Span the Century " Houses.
There are six sites featured, beginning with an early 1800’s adobe, a Classic Revival, two types of Victorians, a mid-century modern and a state-of-the-art sustainable “green” residence. In correlation with the Tour celebration, the Monday Club is also celebrating the 75th Anniversary of their clubhouse, which was designed by world famous woman architect, Julia Morgan.
