Tourism continues to slide PDF Print E-mail

The latest transient occupancy tax (TOT) figures out for January 2009 show a 10.1 percent drop compared to January 2008.

Even though TOT only measures hotel and motel revenue, it's the most reliable indicator of overall tourism activity. The decline for January is the latest indicator that SLO is not immune to the statewide tourism softness that began in September.

Local tourism leaders are working on plans to lure Californians who are now taking trips of fewer days closer to home.
