Gottschalks' last week: A sad time in SLO PDF Print E-mail

The Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware is expected to give its approval late today for the liquidation plan for the Gottschalks Inc. retail chain.

Insiders report that, if approved, today will likely be the San Luis Obispo store's last day open under current management, with liquidation starting tomorrow or Friday.

Gottschalks opened in 1986 and from its opening day has been SLO's highest-grossing general merchandise retailer. It's also been one of the most profitable units in the 58-store chain.

The closing will have a significant impact on city sales tax revenue and on SLO's regional drawing power.
