San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce Vice President, Governmental Affairs, Economic Development Ermina Karim was recognized on Oct. 18 as one of business’s “40 Under 40” by the Pacific Coast Business Times.
This 10th annual edition of the publication’s “40 Under 40” recognizes up-and-coming business leaders in the Tri-Counties.
“Ermina is not only an asset to the Chamber and the local business community, she is an asset to the broader community as a whole,” said Dave Garth, SLO Chamber president/CEO. “She is the perfect candidate for this award and we’re so proud to have her as part of our team.”
To create the “40 Under 40” list, the Pacific Coast Business Times solicited nominations looking for professionals and business owners who live and work primarily in the Tri-Counties. There are two basic requirements: Nominees must be under 40 years of age to enter and can only be honored once. The publication’s staff selects the final honorees based on three criteria: professional accomplishment, community involvement and outside recognition of those accomplishments.
In addition to her role as a representative for the local business community, Karim shares in Chamber personnel responsibilities and leads the Chamber in its economic development strategies, something she already knows a great deal about.
She has worked at the Chamber for nearly three years as the governmental affairs director, and plays an integral role in the economic development of the San Luis Obispo area.
Karim grew up in Illinois where she majored in journalism at Northwestern University, and later became a financial journalist in New York City. She then became a vice president in equity capital markets for Credit Suisse, a leading global financial services firm in New York City.
She has now lived in San Luis Obispo for five years and spends time away from the Chamber raising her 4-year-old daughter.
