Chamber begins work on 2000 goals The Chamber has set its sights on a number of goals that, once accomplished, will have a beneficial impact on the business community in San Luis Obispo. The following goals, established by the Board of Directors, are being assigned to the appropriate committees for further study and action.
- Work with the City of San Luis Obispo's Economic Development Manager.
- Advocate for the annexation of the Airport Area.
- Continue legislative analysis and advocacy at the local, state and federal levels.
- Advocate for additional water sources for the City of San Luis Obispo.
- Monitor land use and zoning issues.
- Advocate for creative solutions for affordable housing.
- Promote awareness of political opportunities during the next elections.
- Seek appropriate opportunities to partner with environmental groups.
- Develop a strategy to deal with the impact and opportunities associated with e-commerce.
- Focus on and support the tourism industry.
- Enhance relations with the North County.
- Advocate for open space acquisitions.
- Develop a strategy on how the Chamber can help employers in their retention efforts.
- Support the closure or merger of General Hospital, per consultant's report.
- Support positions outlined in the Economic Vision Document.
- Continue current legislative committee structure.
- Educate members on the Chamber's mission, goals and events.
- Increase membership to 1,350.
- Evaluate Chamber programs for partnerships and outsourcing opportunities.
- Investigate relocating Chamber offices.
- Educate members on issues of diversity.
- Build commitment among Board members for diversity training.
- Get members to explore Chamber websites through a contest.
- Assist the San Luis Obispo Community Leadership Foundation.
- Have an organized fund-raising drive to raise funds for Leadership SLO.
- Aggressively pursue "value added" benefits for members.
