Chamber forms E-Commerce Task Force

In keeping pace with current technology trends, the Chamber Board has formed a new e-commerce task force. The committee will work to help local businesses and the community at large take advantage of the benefits of doing business on the Internet.

At its retreat in November, the Chamber's Board of Directors discussed the need to form a committee to focus on the issue of e-commerce after a compelling presentation by Larry Martinez, an expert in the field of Internet governance. Martinez reinforced the message that technology and the Internet will continue to change the face of local communities and the speed at which change occurs will likely accelerate in the coming years.

"Business models for retail and service businesses are evolving as a result of the Internet," said Board member Mary Harris, who will be serving as Chair of the E-Commerce Task Force. "The Chamber wants to assist its members in evaluating they ways in which their businesses can benefit from these new opportunities." The task force will be responsible for developing a strategy to deal with the impacts and opportunities associated with e-commerce, with the end goal being to help businesses prepare for competition in an e-commerce world.
